Day 3. Buixcarró
The Costera and Vall d’Albaida districts consists of 2 strips of land running southwest to northeast following the pattern of the Andalusian mountain system. From the Castilian plateau the 2 districts slope gently down in an attempt to reach the sea only to be blocked by the southernmost of the Iberian highlands - the other major mountain system in the Valencian region - in the form of the Buixcarró-Montdúver-Sierra Falconera-La Safor massif.
Passing through the small village of Pla de Corrals, we follow the wide stony trail away from the town through the landscape of the Buixcarró mountain.
A slightly undulating path through mature orange and olive groves, where an encounter with the local nomadic goat herders are common place.
Before strolling through the magnificent pine forest there is an opportunity to appreciate in the distance the modern day pink marble quarry which glistens in the sun. Entering the forest the atmosphere instantly chills and the land becomes thick with plant life such as ferns and oleanders.
Our circular route delivers us back into the village where lunch awaits in one of the small local taverns.

Day 4. The monumental route
Xativa’s rich historical and artistic heritage dates back to 30,000 BC, from a Neanderthal skull which was found in the nearby ’Black Cave’ or ’Cova Negra’. This town was the birthplace of Jose Ribera el Espanola , and of the Borgia Pope Alexander VI. Every town has a dark side and this was contributed by Felipe V who after winning the Battle of Almonsa in the War of Spanish Succession in 1713 ordered the city to be burnt to the ground.
Our route begins in Xativa, the capital of the region of La Costera and takes us through this historic town where we will visit numerous places of interest including Xativa cathedral on route to the Castle, standing out above the town, sprawling across the hilltop with its 30 towers and 4 fortified gateways. This national monument is a result of a fusion of 2 fortresses, 1 Iberian-Roman and the other Moorish. We will walk to the highest point of the Castle and enjoy the panoramic view of the ancient town. Here we will have lunch in the castle restaurant, before making our leisurely decent back to the town.

Day 5. Day off
Subject to local holidays, you have an opportunity to relax in this historic town of Xativa with its abundance of shops,
or if you wish, take a 45 minute train journey from Xativa directly into the magical city of Valencia and enjoy its many attractions from ancient to modern. Read more...
Day 6. El Portalet

Our walk today is found in the hills of Malferit bordering the towns of Canals and L’Olleria.
Canals is famous for what was once considered to be the largest bonfire in the world (entered in the Guinness Book of Records). L’Olleria is home to some of the most important glass factories in the Land of Valencia.
Commencing from ‘El Port’ we take a short detour to the crucifix which overlooks the town of Canals and L’Olleria. From here we start a gentle walk along the old ‘Port de L’Olleria’ joining the hills of Malferit known locally for its many areas of outstanding natural beauty.
The path takes us to the plateau ‘Simetes’ where we will stop for a short break before moving on through the valley towards ‘El Portalet’. Winding around the old dry river bed we gradually descend towards the olive and orange groves.

Day 7.Montesa
montesa castle

Set in the heart of Valencia are the districts of La Costera and La Canal de Navarres. Here the rich, permeable soil has
been eroded into a picturesque landscape, where along certain valleys, the water courses disappear into the subsoil
only to reappear again later. This splendid walk incorporates both these districts.
The picturesque village of Enguera is our starting point, where the wide, stony path guides us through the vegetation which provides a setting clothed in Aleppo pines together with Thyme and Rosemary that perfumes the air.
Crossing over the Sierra Plana, we leave Enguera and enter the La Costera district..
Taking pleasure from the views across the valley, we head towards the ancient town of Montesa. As we near the town the historic castle of Montesa rises up into view.
Lunch in one of the best paella restaurants in the area completes the day.

Day 8.Departure
After your final night in the remarkable province of Valencia we will transfer you back to the airport.
