With Champions, Alinghi, maintaining their status as Champions of the America's Cup with
a 5-2 victory in 2007, they proudly announced that the City of Valencia would again host
the 33rd America's Cup, with the finals in 2009.
Due to contractual wrangles, it now appears more likely that the finals will take place in 2010.
It already appears the forthcoming cup will have the largest challenger entries in the tournaments' history, including a Comunitat Valenciana based syndicate, from Club Nautico de Denia.
The success of the 32nd America's Cup and the transformation and modernisation of the port area of Valencia, bodes well for the future of the cup, as well as providing the population of the city with a fantastic area of newly created facilities.
Valencia 2007 was the 1st time the tournament has been staged in Europe since the original
event which then became the America's Cup, and to be awarded with the 33rd edition shows
that the effort and work that went into the port area of the city has reaped it's rewards.
